Remote Education Provision – Information for Parents and Carers

This information outlines what parents and carers can expect if remote education is required.

Use of remote education

Remote education will be provided when:

  • a pupil is unable to attend school but is well enough to learn from home, or
  • a class, group or the whole school is unable to attend due to exceptional circumstances.

The school’s priority is always for pupils to attend school in person wherever possible.

Curriculum provision

When remote education is required, the school will provide a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects, as closely as possible, the curriculum pupils would receive in school.

Learning will be linked to current class teaching and may include:

  • teacher-prepared tasks and resources
  • recorded or live input from staff
  • carefully selected external resources where appropriate

Platforms used for remote learning

Remote education will be delivered using the school’s established digital platforms:

  • Microsoft Teams – for communication, live or recorded teaching and check-ins
  • Google Classroom – for sharing learning activities, resources and submitting work

Teachers will provide clear instructions for accessing and completing learning.

Daily learning expectations

Pupils are expected to engage in the following approximate amounts of learning each day:

  • EYFS: 2–3 hours
  • Key Stage 1: approximately 3 hours
  • Key Stage 2: approximately 4 hours

This includes a combination of online learning and offline activities.

Access to learning

If a pupil does not have suitable access to a device or internet connection, alternative arrangements, including paper-based learning, will be considered. Parents and carers should contact the school as soon as possible.

Engagement and communication

The school expects pupils to:

  • engage with learning activities each day
  • complete work to the best of their ability

Staff will:

  • monitor engagement
  • make contact with families where engagement is a concern
  • provide feedback where appropriate

Support for pupils with SEND

Remote education will be adapted, where reasonably possible, to support pupils with SEND or additional needs. This may include:

  • adapted tasks or resources
  • additional guidance for families
  • continued communication with key staff

Safeguarding and online safety

All remote education will be delivered in line with the school’s:

  • Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
  • Online Safety Policy

Pupils are expected to follow the school’s behaviour expectations when learning online.

Review

This information will be reviewed regularly and updated in line with Department for Education guidance and local circumstances.
