What is Pupil Premium Funding and how is it spent?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It is allocated to schools according to the number of pupils who have been:

• registered as eligible to receive Free School Meals or in receipt of Free School Meals in the last 6 years
• in local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order
• children of service personnel

at any point over the last six years.

All schools can decide how to allocate this additional funding to best ensure that each pupil thrives and makes excellent progress in their learning. Although the main aim of the pupil premium is to raise attainment, you can spend your pupil premium on:

· non-academic outcomes, such as improving pupils’ mental health

· non-academic improvements, such as better attendance

· activities that will also benefit non-eligible pupils

Whitchurch Primary School is committed to ensuring that every individual pupil is given the best possible chance of making excellent progress and so achieve their full potential. We aim to achieve all pupils to be secondary ready at the end of Year 6. Furthermore, we closely track progress to avoid limiting attainment. We believe that social disadvantage must not be allowed to be a barrier to a child's destiny.
